National Minority Commission happy with Tripura

Agartala, Jul 25, 2010 : The National Minority Commission (NMC) is happy with the performance of the left front government in minority welfare in Tripura.'The minorities in Tripura are not victims of deprivation or discrimination , we are happy with the welfare schemes being implemented by the left front governmentfor upliftment of minorities of all hues' said H.T.Sangliana ,senior member of the NMC. He had arrived here on July 22 and extensively toured different parts of the state including interior areas , interacting with people belonging to minority communities in Churches and Madrasas. Sangliana also visited Kanchanpur subdivision and Mizo-inhabited Jampui hill areas of north Tripura and assessed the situation there in terms of minority welfare ,besides meeting senior officials of the state government including chief secretary S.K.Panda yesterday in the state secretariat.
Speaking to media after the meeting Sangliana said that socio-political situation in Tripura was peaceful and marked by social harmony. He said that for better monitoring of the state of minorities the NMC had divided the entire country into five zones and posted members for specific zones . 'I am in charge of Northeast, Orissa, Chhattishgarh and Jharkhand and I have been touring these states to assess the situation at the grassroot level; I can say on the basis of my experience here that minorities in Tripura are not victims of deprivation or discrimination , I thank the state government for this though I would expect this to continue in the interest of minorities' said Sangliana before signing off from the interactive session.
