ICCR’s cultural show begins at Agartala By Our CorrespondentAgartala, Jul 26, 2010 : Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urged the Indian Council for Cultural Relations ((ICCR) to organize integrated cultural show and cultural exchange programme among northeastern states and other parts of India and abroad to strengthen relation with the region.
Addressing the inaugural function of a two-day India classical music and dance festival here on Sunday evening Sarkar said that such festival would spread the traditional and ethnic culture of northeast.
“Frequent such programme would able to minimize the differences among the various communities of the region and to facilitate the development process in the region,” Sarkar said adding that it would help in creating international understanding through culture, as diverse life and culture of northeast were the key attraction in rest of the world.
ICCR has organised the programme simultaneously in Agartala and Imphal from yesterday, first such in the region. Cultural legend from different parts of the country performed Manipuri, Satriyya (Assamese), Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchpudi, Kathakali dances in the festivals.
