Hasina’s visit uncertain, Prez to be here on 24 Sept

Agartala, Jul 26, 2010 : Uncertainty looms large over proposed visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Agartala in connection with Tripura University convocation.

Hasina was scheduled to arrive here on September 21 next and attend the varsity convocation and also to inaugurate a Bangladesh Trading centre here in the city.

On the same day President Pratibha Patil was also scheduled to visit Tripura University.

But latest report said, President Pratibha Patil would arrive here on September 24 and attend the convocation next day.

“The President will come here on September 24 and she will attend our convocation on September 25. A final communication in this regard was sent to us and accordingly all preparations were being made”, said Prof. Arunaday Saha, Vice Chancellor of the varsity.

But, according to informed sources, with the change of the President’s schedule Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina may not be able to attend the programme here.

She is prescheduled to attend a UN programme at that time and as such will have to skip the Agartala visit.

Prof Saha, however, said that the matters relating to Hasina’s visit was being looked into by concerned ministries in New Delhi.
