Block YC president joins CPI (M)

Agartala, Jul 26, 2010 : In a major setback-symptomatic of the malaise afflicting Youth Congress in Tripura-the Block Youth Congress (BYC) president of Sabroom , Sanjib Mazumder yesterday joined the CPI (M) in a simple function held in the divisional committee office of the CPI (M) in Rupaicherri block under Sabroom subdivision. The function was attended by minister for rural development Jiten Chowdhury , CPI (M) MLA of Sabroom Ms Rita Kar, and two members of CPI (M)'s divisional secretariat Hemendra Debnath and Raiharan Das.

The block congress president of Sabroom , Shanti Priya Bhowmik said that , unnerved by desertions from the party, the CPI (M) leaders were offering baits to Youth Congress workers and leaders in the form of jobs and other benefits to persuade them to join their party . Besides, former CPI (M) leader and member district council Chandi Charan Tripura who had joined Congress after being expelled from the party has also recently returned to the CPI (M) fold, alleging foul play by state Congress leaders.

The state Youth Congress president Sushanta Chowdhury could not be contacted for reaction to the Block president's desertion in Sabroom but senior Congress leaders here attributed the desertion of Sanjib Mazumder and others in different parts of the state to lack of organisational initiative on the part of Youth Congress leadership and chronic factionalism.
