Queens’s Baton reaches Agartala, Rally todayBy Our CorrespondentAgartala, Jul 31, 2010 : The Queens’ Baton of Commonwealth Games has arrived here last evening and received by Tripura Olympic Association President and MLA Gopal Roy at airport.
A rally would be organized with the Baton across the city at 3 pm and at evening it would be received by Higher Education Minister Anil Sarkar in a brief programme.
Before that Sports Minister Tapan Chakrabarty would receive the Baton form the nine members Baton carrying team led by Colonel K N Banstu. Arjun Awardee Mantu Debnath would then take the Baton for the rally.
Official believe that about 1000 persons would take part in the rally including national and international sports legends, personalities and students. Traffic on main thoroughfare through which the rally would pass has been restricted by an order from the SP Traffic.
On August 1 morning the Baton carrying team would leave for Delhi via Kolkata.
Queen’s Baton had already travelled 47 Indian cities including those of northeast. Tripura was the last state in the region where Queen’s Baton arrived from Aizwal.
